CHENNAI: A delegation from the Tamil National Council (TNC) held a high-level meeting with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay, at the State Government Secretariat in Chennai yesterday, Friday (July 3, 2026).
The seven-member delegation, representing the geopolitical interests of the Eelam Tamil people, was led by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Sri Lankan Member of Parliament and Leader of the Tamil National Council.
The comprehensive diplomatic discussions centered on several critical political and human rights challenges currently confronting the Eelam Tamils. Key agenda items included:
Federal Political Solution: The urgent necessity of abolishing Sri Lanka's unitary constitution in favor of a federal political solution that explicitly recognizes the sovereignty of the Tamil Nation.
International Justice: The pressing need for an independent, international investigation into the genocide committed against Eelam Tamils.
Fishermen Dispute: Strategic measures to achieve a sustainable and permanent resolution to the ongoing maritime disputes between Indian and Eelam Tamil fisherfolk.
Refugee Rights: Addressing and resolving the prolonged, systemic issues faced by Eelam Tamil refugees currently residing in India.
The meeting marks a significant diplomatic engagement between Eelam Tamil political representatives and the Tamil Nadu state leadership regarding cross-strait policies and international accountability.
